Ink
Pictures Senior & Shopmaker Gallery is pleased to present a selection of mixed media works on paper by Georgia Marsh. These large-scale pieces, several presented in diptych or triptych format, have a distinctly oriental sensibility, the result of washing inks over Japanese paper to create backgrounds the color of stained silk. Using actual leaves and flowers as templates, Marsh orchestrates delicate compositions, juxtaposing natural with geometric forms. Her new work is suggestive of such diverse influences as the botanical studies of William Morris, Japanese landscape traditions, and John Cage’s theories of chance and mutability. Georgia Marsh was born in 1950 and resides in New York. Her work has been exhibited recently at such venues as the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Ridgefield, CT, the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, Winston-Salem, NC, the New York Public Library, and Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris.
